Million Dollar Homes In San Diego California a Hot Real Estate Market
    by Gord Collins

Are you looking for your dream home in paradise? I guess we all do that at some point, but if you're actually considering where to retire and you're able to purchase a million dollar home as a second home or a retirement home, there are a few US cities that are truly compelling places to live.

When you picture dream homes in your mind, what do you see? Is it a palatial estate with lots of room, a huge shaped pool, and huge patio windows with breathtaking views? Or is it a ranch-like backyard adorned with a magnificent flower garden dotted with swaying palm trees and a view of the ocean? A hundred different people would have a hundred different visions of their ideal dream home.

A dream home is a concept, an image of the ideal home environment where we can relax and do nothing but feel good. Not that dream homes won't inspire us to dream more and work toward achieving greater things. A relaxing, secure and inviting luxury home actually makes you think anything is possible in life, and certainly, these types of homes will attract friends and family, and are the place to entertain business associates. There's nothing better to get people in the right frame of mind than a beautiful home.

Certain areas of the country, such as Southern California, Las Vegas, Nevada, and Hawaii have a strong appeal to the wealthy and this is where you find most of your million dollar homes being built. Many are buying homes in ritzy locales such as San Diego, Orange County, Los Angeles County, and in Las Vegas and Henderson Nevada. The demand for million dollar San Diego Real Estate has risen strongly, while demand for real estate at lesser values has stagnated.

    Luxury San Diego Real Estate

For those who have seen or visited San Diego, the beauty of this city and San Diego County becomes part of the vision they have of the perfect home.

The economic boom in the last 7 years has made the rich richer and many are choosing San Diego as their destination of choice. It's hard to argue with San Diego California as an ideal place to live. The moderate temperatures, sunshine, striking land terrain, and location next to the ocean provide the setting for a lot of recreation activities and a healthy lifestyle. San Diegans are active year round because they can be. Unlike Florida, San Diego doesn't get blazing hot and there aren't hurricanes and tornados to wash away an expensive luxury home.

According the research firm Claritas, between 2003 and 2006, the number of people with a net worth of $1 million or more in San Diego County rose 17 percent. Many of these new millionaires are locals, however, the wealthy are moving San Diego from other areas of the country too after generating sufficient wealth to make the move to San Diego. More than 20,000 more millionaires are expected to move to San Diego in the next 5 years and that will fuel the demand for million dollar San Diego Real Estate.

With an average home sale price of $472,000, Real estate in San Diego is expensive as it is ranked by the San Diego Housing Authority as the 6th least affordable city to live in. This is actually an improvement compared to two years ago when average homes prices were over $600,000. That won't impact the wealthy however who are actually desperate to find their ultimate dream home. There is limited availability in San Diego, so many are looking outside the city to places such as Carlsbad, Encinitas, Del Mar, and Escondido. With homes in the million dollar home enclaves unavailable, they must look to other mid-priced level neighborhoods to build their home. That's created speculation on properties in these neighborhoods, diving up the real estate values in those neighborhoods.

If you're a millionaire looking for the ultimate unique home, you may find Dream Homes Magazine a good resource to find the best available properties in San Diego. They specialize in million dollar homes in San Diego and around the world. Just a quick perusal of their site will give you an idea of what's possible in homes today. If you're a millionaire, a new luxury home in San Diego California is a dream come true.
